Hangman
Time: 20 minutes
Overview
A spelling game and vocabulary-based game.
Preparation
If the language teacher chooses, he/she can prepare a list of vocabulary as a starting point for the game.
Grammar Points
This game examines students’ awareness of the alphabet and the spelling of key vocabulary in a creative and fun manner.
Method
1. Ask a student to the top of the class.
2. Give them a card with a word on it or alternatively, they can choose a word themselves.
3. The student writes a dash on the board for every letter in the word (eg. apple would be _ _ _ _ _ ).
4. The rest of the class then have to guess the letters of the word. If the letter is there then the student at the board writes it in. If it is not, he/she starts to draw a stickman, starting with the head.
5. For each wrong letter called out, the student adds another part of the body of the stickman (neck, body, legs and arm).
6. If the man is drawn before the word is guessed, then the student wins. If someone in the class guesses the word, then they take their turn at the board.
