The Fruit-Vegetable Story
Time: 10 minutes
Overview
This activity focuses on vocabulary awareness linked to the topic of fruit and vegetables. (Altenatively, this game can be altered to incorporate any vocabulary group.)
Preparation
Create a set of cards with images of pieces of fruit and vegetables. Ensure that there is one card for every member of the class. Construct a story which involves the fruit and vegetables as characters/objects.
Grammar Points
This game examines students’ awareness of current vocabulary.
Method
1. Give each student a card with an image with a piece of fruit or vegetable on it.
2. Ask them to check their language books or dictionaries to find the target language noun.
3. Start to read the story.
4. The students must stand up when they hear their word.
5. If no one stands up, the teacher cannot keep on telling the story. He/She may have to write the word on the board to prompt the student.
6. When the story is completed, the language teacher can revise the pronunciation and meaning of the various nouns.
7. This game can be used as the basis for other vocabulary and topics.
